Vacation Spots in Ontario

One of the great things about Ontario are the numerous vacation spots, that are within driving distance of Toronto.

Whether you want to head to the highlands, or be closer to the water, options are plentiful. We put this post together to inspire your next vacation.

If you’re from the area, and trying to plan a romantic vacation (or honeymoon!), you’re in the right place. In this post, we will highlight destinations that are driving distance from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area).

Top Destinations

Prince Edward County

Drive-time: ~4 hour drive from Toronto, Ontario

Description: Located in Southern Ontario, Prince Edward County is nestled on the east-end of Lake Ontario. Enjoy some of the best food in the world, visit some wineries, enjoy the scenery, and more.

Where to Stay

  • Picton Harbour Inn – A quaint hotel that is walking distance from shops and restaurants. If you book the right room, you also get a view of the harbor.
  • Merrill House – If you’re looking for something a little more rustic, then check out the Merrill House. Originally built in 1878, the hotel offers a quaint sauna, fine French dining, and an eclectic cocktail bar.
  • June Motel – June Motel was originally a dingy hotel that went through a thorough renovation. In fact, the renovation was documented on Motel Makeover, a series on Netflix. No longer dingy, the motel is a boutique establishment near Sauble beach and town. One of their main highlights is their retro swimming pool, where you can catch some tunes and the sun, all day long.

Where to Eat and/or Drink The county is known as a gastronomical powerhouse, and its 45+ wineries. Below are a list of places to eat and drink.

Collingwood

Drive-time: ~2 hour drive from Toronto, Ontario

Description: Located on the southern point of Georgian Bay, Collingwood is nestled in between the Blue Mountains and the water. Feel free to go for a ski over at the Blue Mountain Resort, checkout the area’s Scenic Caves, and/or pay a visit to Craigleith Provincial Park.

Where to Stay

  • The Westin Trillium House – Located right next to Blue Mountain, the Westin Trillium House provides easy access to the ski slopes, boutique shops, and eclectic eats.

Where to Eat and/or Drink

Muskoka

Drive-time: ~2.5 hour drive from Toronto, Ontario

Description: Located north of Toronto, Muskoka is sandwiched in between Georgian Bay, Lake Couchiching, and Algonquin Provincial Park. Given Muskoka’s location, there are a wide variety of things to do. Whether you want to explore the outdoors or enjoy some libations, there are a ton of options. Options include and are not limited to paying a visit to Algonquin Provincial Park, checking out Muskoka’s steamships, grabbing a pint at Sawdust City Brewing, and being a spectator at the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery.

  • JW Marriott The Rosseau Resort and Spa – The resort sits on a granite bluff overlooking tranquil Lake Rosseau. Besides a beautiful view, you can get a massage, eat, drink, and be merry. There are many options both on the resort, and nearby.
