Well, we’re going to do our best to make that happen, by teaching you how to choose outfit colors based on your undertone. Before we discuss the role of undertones any further, please know that your undertones are not the same as the surface of color of your skin.!
By the end of this post, our goal is to help you understand what colors can suit you best. Keep in mind that these are meant to be guidelines, so we empower you to choose whatever colors make you feel beautiful. Next, let’s discuss what undertones are!
Undertones
As hinted earlier in this post, your color selection will revolve around your undertone. There are 3 undertones, and we will figure out which tone you have.
Spoiler alert, we are not talking about fair vs. wheat vs. dusky skin complexion. Instead, we are talking about the ideas of Cool, Neutral, and Warm undertones.
Contrary to the traditional interpretation of undertone and complexion, the definitions of Cool, Neutral, and Warm undertones span many skin complexions.
Swipe through the slideshow below, to see examples of celebrities and their corresponding undertones. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what each undertone can look like, across women of many colors.

There are many ways to go about trying to figure out your undertone. For the sake of keeping this short and simple, we are going to walk you through one of the most common ways to figure that out, so that we can quickly move on to presenting you your color options!
The Undertone Test
Alright. It is time to get tested! Follow the instructions below:
- Face your palms up, kind of like the picture below.
- Look at your wrists and palms.
- Observe and note the color of your veins. The color of your veins will tell you what your undertone is.

The Undertone Results
At this point, you have identified the color of your veins (as mentioned in Step 3 of The Undertone Test). There are three possible results, as listed below.
- Your veins look blue and/or purple. In this case, your undertone is considered Cool.
- Your veins look purple and/or light green. In this case, your undertone is considered Neutral.
- Your veins look green. In this case, your undertone is considered Warm.
Note down your undertone! You’ll need to remember it, so that the next section makes sense.
The Best Indian Dress Outfit Colors, Based on Undertone
Next, we’ll look at the best color options. We have listed those options, by undertone.
Cool
First, let’s go over the colors that go well with Cool undertones.
Once again, this is your undertone, if your veils look blue and/or purple. Below are this tone’s most suitable colors. In addition to the Cool colors below, neutral colors like Black and White can be worn.
- Bright Blue
- Royal Blue
- Lavender
- Lilac Snow
While the colors above can greatly compliment a Cool undertone, people with Cool undertones should generally avoid wearing bold Yellow, Tomato Red, and Orange. These three colors tend to clash with this undertone.
The picture on the right, illustrates what an appropriate color looks like for someone with a Cool undertone.
Neutral
Once again, this is your undertone, if your veils look purple and/or light green. Those who have neutral undertones, often have the widest variety of outfit colors that they can pull off. Below are this tone’s most suitable colors.
- Light Peach
- Dusty Rose Pink
- Blush Pink
- Soft Rose
- Jade Green
- Placid Blue
- Cameo Green
- Black
As a Neutrally undertoned person, skin color should be taken into consideration. For example, if you are darker skinned, then colors like Jade Green or Light Peach may be more ideal selections, from the color section listed above this paragraph. For all skin colors within this undertone, it is best to avoid brown shades of clothing. Brown shades of clothing are more likely to look like they are blending in with a person’s skin.
Warm
Once again, this is your undertone, if your veils look green. Below are this tone’s most suitable colors. If Warm-undertoned person is looking for more neutral colors, they can also consider wearing beige or mushroom gray.
- Orange
- Red
- Warm Red
- Golden Yellow
- Honey Amber
Once again, this is your undertone, if your veils look green. Below are this tone’s most suitable colors. If Warm-undertoned person is looking for more neutral colors, they can also consider wearing beige or mushroom gray.
Take a look at the picture to the right, to see how Red can look on a Warm-toned person.
Universal Colors
Finally, we understand that not everyone will want to have their color options be restricted by their undertones. That is where universal colors come in. Universal colors are tones that typically look good on a person, regardless of their undertone. See this list below:
- Pale Pink
- Teal
- Bright Red
