So far we’ve done, B.C, Alberta, Washington, and now we’re completing the series with our top resorts in sunny California. Based on feedback from our readers, we’ve decided to write this post where we share some top honeymoon destinations in the state of California. Given the diverse terrain and climate in the area, we’ve broken down the destinations into four themes. These themes are as follows:

The Mountains

The Landing Resort & Spa

Drive-time: 2  hours from Sacramento, CA

Location: South Lake Tahoe

Description:The Landing Tahoe Resort & Spa sits closely on the shoreline with gorgeous views and also minutes away from a lively downtown. Enjoy great dining, spa and much more! Depending on the time of the year, activities range from watersports to skiiing. 

Wine Country

Drive-time: 1.25 hours from Sacramento

Location: Sonoma

Description: Close to many popular landmarks, the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is a beautiful resort that will meet high expectations. There’s no shortage of things to do including visiting many parks such as Sonoma Garden park and Bartholomew Park.

If you’re in the mood to kick back and relax, check out the area’s local wineries. Below is a short list of wineries in Sonoma, for you to start brainstorming which wineries you want to visit:

Drive-time: 2 hours from San Francisco

Location: Napa Valley

Description: A great way to spend your honeymoon is by staying in Napa Valley. Wineries, beautiful scenery and delicious food are some of the fantastic intricacies of Napa Valley. If you’re in the mood to leave the resort and visit some wineries, below are some award-winning wineries in the area:

The Beach

Drive-time: ~2 hours and 30 minutes from San Francisco

Location: Big Sur

Description: Saddled at the converging points of Central California’s rugged terrain and the Pacific Ocean, the Post Ranch Inn offers the qualities of both the mountains and beaches. As seen in the image gallery to the right, the Inn’s luxury suites offer breath taking views of the area’s rugged landscape and ocean views. Like most of the destinations shared in this post, a spa and great food are available at the Inn. 

In addition to the Inn’s amenities, the city of Big Sur offers its own share of sites to see. Therefore, we highly recommend getting out and visiting some of the area’s parks.  Below are a list of parks that provide a deeper view into the nature-centric places to check out:

  • Point Sur State Historic Park
  • Andrew Molera State Park
  • Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
  • Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
  • John Little State Natural Reserve
  • Limekiln State Park
If you don’t feel like getting out of your car and hiking through one of the parks above, you can drive through Highway 1 by Big Sur, which is considered to be one of the most scenic drives on this planet.

Drive-time: 1 hour 40 minutes from Los Angeles

Location: Santa Barbara

Description: Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Ritz Carlton in Santa Barbara is the perfect resort to stay at for a honeymoon. You can enjoy the two beaches and enjoy delicious fresh Californian cuisines.

If you’re looking to stroll through some of the city’s attractions, below are a list of additional places to visit:

Drive-time: 3.5 hours from Sacramento

Location: Mendocino

Description: Brewery Gulch Inn is a top ranked hotel around the world. It is surrounded by the Smuggler’s Cove and the Pacific Ocean. Dining is a must at the Inn, where you can eat next to a fireplace with signature dishes and fresh ingredients. This is one is a must visit!

The Desert

Drive-time: 2 hours from Los Angeles

Location: Indian Wells

Description: Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton offers a world-class resort in the high desert. Guests can kick back and relax in the resort’s actual wells and salt-water pools,  or enjoy some of the city’s sites to see. Being the home one of the world’s largest tennis tournaments  and facilities in the world, Indian Wells’ reputation precedes itself. If you’re not crazy about sports, the area’s hot air balloon rides are worth checking out over in Palm Springs.
